Starfire Families,

We are so thankful to have our students back in school! To say they have been amazing this week is an understatement! Many of you are aware that Adams County has been named a “hot spot” in Indiana. The administrative staff and school nurses would like to take this opportunity to help reassure you of what we are doing at South Adams to keep students and staff safe and healthy this year. Everyone is doing a wonderful job readjusting to the school routine, and we are so proud of the great job everyone is doing with the new procedures. We are focusing on preventing the spread of all illnesses, but especially Covid-19. Students are instructed frequently to use good hand hygiene, the seating arrangements in rooms have been adjusted to encourage social distancing, and students and staff are wearing face coverings when unable to socially distance. We are confident that if we continue to follow these procedures, we will limit exposure to illness, especially Covid-19 cases.

We know this situation is ever-changing and can cause anxiety/stress for students and parents. We are here to help reassure you that we have added additional cleaning rotations for our custodians, installed water bottle filling stations, and teachers are ensuring student’s desks are sanitized in between classes. We appreciate all of your phone calls and emails regarding specific questions/concerns as they have come up. We encourage parents to be open and honest with us when they have questions, hear a rumor, or have a student with symptoms that may be Covid-related. The nurses and administrative staff are here to answer those questions and have been in contact with the local Health Department when needed. We are following the guidelines in place from the state and local health departments to determine how to appropriately handle illness in our school. We will contact parents should your child be considered a “close contact” of someone who has a known Covid positive test or symptoms. Together, we will learn and adapt to this ever-changing situation we are all living in.

Thank you for all the support and help you are giving to make the start of this year run so smoothly! School definitely looks a little different this year, but our STARS are better than ever, in spite of those differences.
